  • Dairy Queen of East Norriton

Date: 2012.02.13 | Category: Dining, East Norriton | Response: 1

Although it’s February and winter is in full swing, that shouldn’t stop you from satisfying your sweet tooth.  Last week I stopped into Dairy Queen to talk to the owner and get some pictures for a new featured listing.  Dairy Queen of East Norriton is open year round to help curb your cravings.  I had a Butterfinger Blizzard myself, and it was delicious.  I’ve already got plans to stop by one night after work to grab the Blizzard of the Month as seen in the picture above.  Can’t go wrong with cherry and chocolate!

  • Occupy Norristown

Date: 2011.10.20 | Category: East Norriton, Everywhere else, Local Bullshit, Norristown | Response: 4

I’ve located some details on the organization of an “Occupy Norristown” event. I do my best to keep tabs on the locale, mostly for my own well being.

After sifting through keyword reports and running some search queries of my own, I stumbled upon 2 Facebook pages affiliated with the soon to be occupation of Norristown. The first is a fanpage and is simply called “Occupy Norristown

I noticed that although the page has less than the required 25 likes for a vanity url, it already had one. But then I realized it was categorized as an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization). And since I’ve never set one of those up, perhaps Facebook offers some leeway with that.

The second page was an event page, and it was titled; “Occupy Norristown Planning Meeting

There you’ll discover that a planning meeting is scheduled for the end of October at Steppy’s in East Norriton. Unfortunately I have no review yet for Steppy’s, so I apologize for the lack of visual aids.

At first I was surprised that the meeting date was so far out. But for all I know, they could plan, and start all in the same day maybe? Another thing that came to mind was the 11/11/11 date. And I assume they’re planning to start as close to that date as possible. Especially if any of them are familiar with the political system here in Montgomery County (draw your own conclusions).

Which brings me to my next observation. Steppy’s is a peculiar old school type of “establishment“. Let’s just say virtually anyone might overhear what they’re planning. (again draw your own conclusions).

eastnorriton.org is not affiliated with the Occupy movement, nor any local governing body

I keep meaning to stop and talk with Poppys Bergin but I always see him from the opposite side of Germantown Pike and my choices are: try to turn around somewhere or jump out of my car and run across the street. Both options seem less than perfect. Turning around might do the job, but I could also lose track of him because of all of the traffic. The latter option might scare him off, and I don’t think that’s the best way to land an exclusive interview. I’m bound to run into him eventually on the same side of the street.

  • Earthquake along East Coast

Date: 2011.08.24 | Category: East Norriton, Norristown, Random, Weather | Response: 1

A 5.9 earthquake hit Virginia and shook most of the East Coast. Residents in East Norriton and surrounding areas such as Blue Bell experienced shaking buildings and rattling windows. An unexpected event for an area not known for earthquakes, many evacuated their workplace and contacted friends and relatives in other cities. As cell phones carriers were overwhelmed, Facebook and twitter proved to be a more reliable form of communication until phones were back online. Still others brushed off the event as though nothing had happened. Details emerged rather quickly leaving many unsure of how to proceed with the day. The earthquake occurred around 2 pm EST and could only be felt for a few seconds in most parts of Montgomery County.

  • Regional storm grinds rush hour traffic

Date: 2011.08.20 | Category: East Norriton, Local Bullshit, Weather | Response: 0

The storm this evening that hit the Norristown and surrounding areas slowed rush hour traffic in East Norriton to a virtual standstill. There was mild flooding on Swede and into Norristown where it becomes DeKalb. The storm seemed to be hovering right above the intersection of Germantown and Swede for almost an hour.

  • Sears Not Scared of Rapture

Date: 2011.05.20 | Category: East Norriton, Norristown | Response: 2

Well it’s been well over  a year (I think?) since Kmart closed it’s doors in the nameless shopping center up the hill from Northtowne Plaza.  Maybe it does have a name but they certainly don’t do a good job of sharing it.  Perhaps it’s even part of Northtowne Plaza itself.

Tomorrow May 21st, 2011 the new East Norriton Sears Outlet will be hosting it’s Grand Opening at 9AM.  Here’s the address, it’s right behind the Applebees and Chick Fil A on Dekalb.

    Store #9114
2700 Dekalb Pike, Norristown, PA 19401
    610-239-8292

The word on the street is that there was some sort of soft opening this week whatever that means.  I have to be honest I’m not in a huge rush to get over there tomorrow, but I am pretty pleased that the void in that shopping center is now filled.  I’ll make it a point to stop in next week, I’m just not much for events.  I remember shopping at the Sears Surplus in Quakertown in the late 80′s and early 90′s and if this new Sears Outlet is anything like what Surplus used to be than I am in!
